Emerging topics about WhatsApp security and privacy concerns
Since the news about the introduction of new privacy policies on WhatsApp, it has been blown out of proportion by persons whom are either ill-informed or competitors of the instant messaging platform. Some persons in my circle even suggest that it will enable WhatsApp to read their private messages, and share it for marketing reasons. Let me make it clear that this license agreement can make "privacy of data" a legitimate concern for WhatsApp users, but it shouldn't be translated overboard to push lopsided narratives.
WhatsApp is presently one of few instant messaging platforms to completely implement end-to-end encryption, which ensure the confidentiality of messages sent across the platform. Below is a list of popular social media platforms that does not currently have the complete version of E2EE, yet no one is talking about it.
- Discord
- Kiki Messenger
- Facebook Messenger (has E2EE for user chat but not for group chat)
- Skype (has E2EE for user chat but not for group chat)
- Slack
- SnapChat
- Telegram (has E2EE for user chat but not for group chat)
